ProHD Memory Card Camcorder

  • Native File Recording
  • Reliable, Low-cost Media
  • Exceptional Image Quality
  • True Portability
Compatibility with NLE systems

This new generation of portable camcorders uses standard SDHC memory cards for direct file-based recording to either QuickTime™ MOV or MP4 format*, and are the world's first to offer native compatibility with Apple's Final Cut Pro™ and other major non-linear editing (NLE) systems. A new MPEG2 encoder that can process full 1920 x 1080 HD video at up to 35 Mbps assures stunning picture quality, while the excellent mobility of these models make them ideal for image capture in fast-moving situations where portability and speed are critical.

*GY-HM700 requires the optional KA-MR100G SxS memory card recorder to record MP4 files on either SDHC or SxS media.

Native File Recording

World's first native support for Final Cut Pro™

MOV

The GY-HM700/HM100 both use QuickTime™ as its native file format for the tightest integration yet with Apple's popular Final Cut Pro™ editing system. Simply drag the QuickTime™ MOV files recorded on the memory card into Final Cut Pro™ and you're ready to start editing-no file wrapping, no transcoding, no waiting.

Ready-to-edit MP4 files compatible with every major editing system

MP4

For users of other NLE systems, including solutions from Adobe, Avid and Canopus, the GY-HM700/HM100 also support the MP4 file format. (GY-HM700 requires the optional KA-MR100G SxS memory card recorder.) These files too can be brought into your editing system without re-encoding.

GY-HM700/HM100 workflow

*MP4 file-based workflow with the optional SxS memory card recorder is only available with the GY-HM700.

** The GY-HM700 requires the optional KA-MR100G SxS memory card recorder to record MP4 files on either SDHC or SxS media.

Reliable, Low-cost Media

Twin SDHC card slots SDHC Class 6 memory card

The GY-HM700/HM100 use standard, inexpensive and widely available SDHC Class 6 memory cards. These cards are small, light, robust and reliable, and can be read by your computer using any standard card reader. With the twin card slots, the GY-HM700/HM100 both can record footage continuously without having any breaks or momentary dropout.

Twin SDHC card slots for flexibility of scene-by-scene card selectionHot swappable SDHC cards for continuous shooting (GY-HM700)

As for GY-HM700, cards are hot swappable, so there is in effect no limit to the continuous shooting time in any mode, even with inexpensive lower capacity cards-just keep loading new cards. The twin card slots also offer the flexibility of scene-by-scene card selection.

Confirmed SDHC Class 6 cards for GY-HM700/HM100 are manufactured by SanDisk, Toshiba and Panasonic.

Optional SxS memory card recorder (KA-MR100G)

With the optional KA-MR100G SxS memory card recorder, the GY-HM700 is capable of shooting simultaneously to SDHC and SxS memory, providing an instant client copy and reliable backup solution.

Exceptional Image Quality

1080p Dynamic Digital Signal Processor (DDSP)

1080p Dynamic Digital Signal Processor (DDSP)

At the heart of the GY-HM700/HM100 is the new Dynamic Digital Signal Processor. Processing is performed on the full progressive 1920 x 1080 signal, regardless of the camcorder's settings, ensuring the highest picture quality in any shooting mode. All major HD resolutions are supported, including 1920 x 1080, 1440 x 1080 and 1280 x 720.

35 Mbps MPEG2 Encoding

35Mbps

The highly efficient MPEG2 codec used by the Dynamic Digital Signal Processor compresses video signals at up to 35 Mbps-high enough to support full 1920 x 1080 resolution — for simply stunning image quality. The MPEG2 long GOP (Group of Pictures) codec is a widely used, broadcast-standard compression system and is supported by all popular editing systems and broadcast servers.

Three 1/3-inch Progressive CCD Design with Triplex Offset (GY-HM700) 3CCD

Three 1/3-inch Progressive CCD Design with Triplex Offset (GY-HM700)

The three progressive CCD design provides rich, accurate colors, while JVC original Triplex Offset technology in conjunction with pixel correlation adaptively increases the effective resolution both horizontally and vertically by shifting the red and blue pixels independently relative to the green for a sharper picture without any corresponding loss in sensitivity. As a result, horizontal, vertical and diagonal resolutions are dramatically increased.

Three 1/4-inch Progressive CCD Design with Diagonal Offset (GY-HM100)

The three progressive CCD design provides rich, accurate colors, while JVC's Diagonal Offset technology increases sampled luminance information in both horizontal and vertical directions by shifting the red and blue pixels relative to the green. The result is a sharper picture without any corresponding loss in sensitivity.

Newly Developed Canon 14x HD Lens (GY-HM700)

Newly Developed Canon 14x HD Lens (GY-HM700)

The JVC GY-HM700 comes equipped with a newly developed 14x interchangeable HD lens from Canon. With a focal length down to 4.4 mm (equivalent to 31.7 mm on a 35 mm camera), the new lens is 20% wider than previous models, and at the telephoto end (up to 447 mm at 35 mm equivalent) it is less susceptible to color flaring. Throughout the zoom range the lens produces less chromatic aberration for more accurate focusing, and the same image brightness without reducing the F-stop.

10x Fujinon HD Lens (GY-HM100)

10x Fujinon HD Lens (GY-HM100)

The JVC GY-HM100 is equipped with a high definition 10x zoom lens by Fujinon, a world leader in HD lens technology. The design minimizes the weight and size of the lens, while still providing exceptional HD optical performance, with low distortion. To reduce lens flare and ghosting, the lens surface has a new Electronic Beam Coating (EBC) that greatly reduces the amount of light reflecting off the lens surface, and increases light transmission. The focal length of the lens ranges from 3.7-37 mm (39-390 mm at 35 mm film equivalents), offering a good balance of wide angle and zoom. For wider angle shooting, the built-in lens hood can be removed and an optional GL-V0746U wide-angle converter fitted. The zoom range can also be extended with the optional GL-V1846U telephoto converter.

True Portability (GY-HM100)

True Portability (GY-HM100)

The GY-HM100 is truly an engineering marvel. Weighing only 3.1 lbs. (1.4 kg), this super-compact camcorder can be held comfortably with one hand. Go-anywhere portability makes this the ideal choice for location shooting in even the most difficult of environments.
