3-CCD camera system with 720 HD CCDs

The ProHD camcorder packs three highdefinition CCD image sensors. Each array has a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720 and a micro-lens system. Because native resolution matches that of most HDTV displays, image scaling is not required, further enhancing the quality of recorded images. These innovative CCDs also incorporate sophisticated circuitry that virtually eliminates lag and image burn.

JVC's ProHD products apply the same progressive scanning system used in highend HDTV cameras. A full-frame (50/60p) progressive scanning system gives them the unique ability to capture and store full frames of image information. An added bonus of progressive scanning is that while converting a progressive image into an interlaced image could not be simpler, the opposite is not the case. Pause or play progressiverecordings in slow motion and each individual frame contains every detail of the original image, which is a major Advantage when viewing and analyzing motion. Stills and prints captured from HD progressive video avoid the distortion that typically results from combining two different fields of interlaced video. Besides, today's flat panel television displays and fixed matrix projectors such as D-ILA, DLP, and LCD are all native progressive scanning systems. That means JVC's progressive HDV recordings can be displayed without imperfections because they do not need to pass through the gdegenerative de-interlacing process before being displayed.

HDV and DV compatibility

The HDV format uses the same recording track pitch (10 μm) as Professional DV, so ProHD also offers track pitch compatibility with DV format, as well as the same recording time. This remarkable HD recording capability is achieved by a new high-power MPEG codec system, which can maintain high-definition picture quality, while compressing data to 19.7 Mbps bit rate. With superior resolution nd advanced processing, ProHD delivers top performance in both native 16:9 HD and SD modes. The ability to record in either HD or SD makes ProHD the logical choice for professionals in transition to full HD.

Native 24p Editing

ProHD makes the dream of creating HD video, while retaining with essential qualities of film, a reality at last. Capturing and recording at the film frame rate of 24 fps, and offering extensive user configurable settings such as exposure, gamma, and detail, the ProHD leaves you free to focus on creative expression. For the ultimate expression on the big screen, 24-frame progressive recordings can be transferred easily to 16 mm or 35 mm film. Remove the video lens and replace it with a film lensconverter system, such as the Mini 35 from P & S Technik, and a ProHD camcorder becomes a full-function digital film camera.

14-bit A/D converter

To improve both S/N ratio and horizontal resolution, a new JVC-developed 14-bit A/D converter prevents signal deterioration and generates a four-fold increase in gradations compared to the original converter.

Wideband analog front-end processing

The ProHD camcorder has a wideband analog front-end for CCD sampling via a 14- bit A/D converter. This further improves an already impressive S/N ratio, as well as horizontal resolution, by optimizing CCD drive circuitry and sample hold timing. Besides, the new Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) interface sharply reduces signal loss between image sensor circuit and main circuit, contributing to an improved S/N ratio.

Newly-developed pixel converter

To enable 720p50/60 recording, JVC developed a new super encoder and a new pixel converter, incorporating an adaptive filter that optimizes the scalar performance of cross-converted signals, including 1080i. The results are increased resolution and reduced aliasing. So, objects have much more natural looking edges and images for a lifelike appearance.

Compact Shoulder Mount Design

JVC's ProHD camcorders are the only professional HD camcorders to feature a compact shoulder mount design, which is suitable for camera operators of all shapes and sizes. HD handheld camcorders of other manufacturers are leading to physical fatigue when operating one single-handed for long periods. However, because the shoulder mount design of a ProHD camcorder disperses the weight over both head and shoulder, operators can shoot comfortably for long periods. As a result, ProHD series camcorders offer excellent mobility and enhanced usability, while their range of ergonomic adjustments ensures camera operators, regardless of stature or physique, can support the camcorder steadily and comfortably.
